Sheng Mian married Fu Yancheng as part of an arrangement to save his company, receiving 300 million dollars in compensation. Meanwhile, she hadn't even met her own husband in over three years since they got hitched. The day she was supposed to finally meet him (during his welcoming party), her father asked her to request more funds, to which she replied that they had already borrowed a lot of money only to be misspent and that she didn't feel entitled for more than what's already been given.

In light of her hesitance, Su Lan (her stepmother) drugged both Yancheng and Mian, and they ended up in bed together. As she was leaving stealthily, Yancheng woke up and inquired why she hadn't yet attempted to ask for anything after supposedly "getting him into bed." Mian felt unsurprisingly offended by this insinuation and told him it was all a mistake, but he didn't believe her. Instead, he tossed a black prepaid card to the floor and told her to take the money as compensation for what she "deserved," but no more than that.

Indignant, she was about to remind him that, despite not knowing each other, they were still husband and wife, but she was abruptly interrupted by a phone call in which she heard him affirm that they would get a divorce because, after all, she was only a stranger to him. Without even waiting for him to hang up, she walked from the room, feeling as if her heart were stabbed by a thousand needles.

He then turned his attention towards the bed and noticed a blood stain on the blanket. He then realized he may have misjudged the woman he was with, and that she might not be the person he thought she was. After that, he wanted to inquire more about her, not even realizing she was his wife the whole time. Down the road, they would both develop deep feelings for each other, though they'd have to jump through several hoops before ending up together.

Sheng Mian

Mian is a beautiful and outstanding designer with an assertive character but with a humble heart as well. She doesn't take much pride in her father, who, instigated by her stepmother, uses her in order to procure money from the Fu Family. Her strong sense of justice impedes her from taking undeserved money, even from her husband (albeit unknown). Likewise, despite her overall meek demeanor, she can stick up for herself, especially against her despicable stepmother.

Fu Yangcheng

Fu Yangcheng is the vice president of the powerful Fu's Group and is also Mian's unknown husband. He's known for his overly stern attitude towards everyone around him, though he's not afraid to show kindness whenever warranted. Yangcheng behaves rather nonchalantly when confronted with serious issues such as marriage, and has been very committed to maintaining his chastity until he lost his virginity accidentally that first night with Mian.

Su Lan

Su Lan (otherwise known as Aunt Su) is Sheng Mian's loathsome stepmother and is as attractive as she's contemptive and manipulative. She has a knack for conspiring and setting up ploys to snatch more money from people, especially taking advantage of her sweet stepdaughter's attributes. Likewise, she feels owed by the Shengs, even though Mian often reminds her that without her deceased mother, there would be no family business in the first place.
