Plot of The Female CEO Turned Janitor
"The Female CEO Turned Janitor" kicks off with an outraged Shulan storming into her office, brandishing a newspaper. She tosses it onto Qin Mu's lap and he reads the headline, which reads that the Golden Age Group is being accused of oppressing low-level employees. Bewildered, he asks how such information could appear on a prominent news outlet, only to find Shulan standing before him in janitor attire.
Her plan is to pose as a new hire in the maintenance department and try to assess the situation first-hand. To her dismay, she could witness the degrading treatment inflicted upon the staff, deemed sub-humans. The first offender is Manager Yu, who's in her post at the behest of her lover, Director Luo. She would purposefully spill dirty water onto the bathroom floor to delay their cleaning tasks. She would also spit on her expensive shoe and compel one of the janitors to lick it off.
Shulan rebukes Manager Yu to her face, but Yu, unaware of Shulan's true status, tries to humiliate her. Adding to the tension, Director Luo goes so far as to slap her in the face. As Shulan continues to be a thorn in Yu's side, the latter plants her diamond necklace into the former's locker in an attempt to incriminate her, but the plan backfires after a child of one of the employees comes forward to testify against her.
At this juncture, Shulan decides to disclose her true identity, but both Managers, Yu and Xiao, adamantly reject her claim. When she asks them to summon Mr. Qin to corroborate her story, they refuse on the grounds that she had no authority to bind them to do so and that, for all intents and purposes, she could just be a crazy person claiming to be the CEO of the Golden Age Group.
Something Doesn't Add Up
Mr. Qin shows up and demands Yu and Xiao apologize to Shulan, but both of them are unable to recognize him and scoff him off. asserting that he's just another act. While Mr. Qin did explain to Shulan that he had never met them in person and, thus, there was no reasonable way for them to acknowledge him, she still found their attitude suspect, as if they had support from someone in higher positions.
For that reason, she decides to keep the janitor role until she finds out just "how big the crane can be in the back." Throughout her research, she would have to face very dangerous situations that would even put her life and physical integrity in jeopardy.
Characters of The Female CEO Turned Janitor
Shulan Fang
Shulan Fang, the stunning CEO of the prestigious Golden Age Group, commands both admiration and respect in the region's corporate landscape. Beyond her prowess as a businesswoman, she embodies compassion and integrity, deeply committed to the welfare of her company and its employees. Her leadership is marked not only by strategic acumen but also by genuine care and empathy.
However, her good character may not sit well with certain members of the board, who are invested in maintaining their old oppressive practices.
Mr. Qin
Mr. Qin is the vice president of the Golden Age Group - in other words, its second-in-command. Apart from being handsome, he's extremely loyal to Shulan, to the point where he'd even give up his life for her safety. In some instances, it might be noticeable that he harbors romantic feelings for her, though he doesn't state it outright.
Other Characters:
Manager Yu is one of the main antagonists of the novel, a frivolous brat with a very inflated view of herself. Her behavior exudes entitlement and disdain towards those she perceives as beneath her.
Director Luo deems himself "the emperor," going so far as to elevate himself above the CEO herself, though he only does so in front of the lower-tier employees. His actions reveal a deep-seated security problem masked by a facade of dominance and, what's more, he utilizes his self-endowed authority to advance the interests of his lover, Manager Yu.
Ding Chunmei is a humble janitor at the company, a very financially challenged woman with an ill son to look after, and for whom she would do anything, even at the expense of her own life or job. She'd definitely play a pivotal role throughout the course of the mini-series.
