Fifteen years later, Celeste, now divorced, adopted Gwen out of pity. Gwen seems innocent but is deceptively deep. Disliking the impoverished yet studious Tully Reid, Gwen bullies her mercilessly. Raised indulgently, Gwen cares little for the poor and manipulates her mother into aiding her unwittingly, further straining Celeste's relationship with the Reid siblings. Throughout these years, Celeste never stopped searching for her children, unaware they were nearby all along.
