Plot of Transcendence
"Transcendence" begins with a summary of a "fantasy" flick starring Kyson Quinn, Glory Land's fearless God of War, who rescues the land from the clutches of an abominable warrior from Evil Land, who, in turn, having faced defeat, poisoned Glory Land's water source with nuclear wastes, placing its inhabitants in utter peril. Seeing no other alternative, Kyson sacrifices himself to save the people by diving into the polluted water mass and disappears, leaving no trace.
But, in an amusing but highly foreboding twist, this entire flick was just Leland's head's reimagination of his favorite audiobook as he was doing his shift in his security office. His workmate then shows him live footage of the parking lot's camera as two people are about to have sex there and then. What Leland wasn't expecting was that the girl in the footage would be his two-month-old wife, Diana. He immediately rushed toward the lot to confront the couple, only to find out, after a brief and heated exchange, that his relationship with Diane had been a farce from the beginning and that the man cuddling with his woman was her lover from before the marriage, who was none other than Kyle Fuller, the most important and influential entrepreneur in all of Jimdool.
Next, Kyle hits Leland with a fire extinguisher in the head, leaving the latter unconscious on the asphalt. Blood was gushing from his forehead and some of it landed on his pendant, causing it to emit a mysterious green glow. As it turns out, from the moment the pendant was bathed in Leland's blood, a signal was sent to Glory Land. Apparently, this security guard was indeed the illustrious Mr. Quinn from the novels, and Ms. Dale sends guards to look for him there.
In the next scene, Ms. Gilbert, a beautiful businesswoman, approaches him in her car and tries to wake him up. Leland gets up in a tizzy and Ms. Dale says she'll take him to the hospital on her way to Platinum Club, but he remarks that the place is owned by Kyle, whom she also knows. He warns her not to go there for she'll be in danger. Indeed, Kyle had planned to have sex with her, willingly or not.
Leland, fearing that Ms. Gilbert's life might be in danger, races towards the club and finds her, drugged and wandering aimlessly. Kyle and his minions immediately surround the two, and he grabs the girl while Leland is seized by the security ring. One of the minions breaks his right leg at Kyle's command, but when he attempts to break his other leg, a blast of magical energy bursts forth from his body, staggering the mob and leaving them inert on the floor.
This moment would signal Leland's rise to prominence, as he becomes aware of the true potential he thought he always had but could not manifest up until that scene. It also marks the start of a passionate relationship with Ms. Gilbert, who happens to be Kyle Fuller's biggest threat in the business world.
Main Characters in Transcendence
Leland Quinn
Leland Quinn is, from the onset, a very jumpy and geeky working-class citizen of Jimdool with very high and "naive" aspirations. He dreams of becoming a hero like his favorite "fictional" character, the God of War, Kyson Quinn, with whom he shares a lot more than his last name. Furthermore, he's confident that he harbors strange magical powers that he can put to good use, though no one believes him until he reveals himself as the almighty Kyson by sheer circumstance.
In his gross innocence, he falls for Diana, one of Kyle's girlfriends, thinking that her love for him is genuine, only to realize she was playing with him at the behest of Kyle Fuller. Luckily, after a series of unfortunate events, he encounters his true love, Ms. Gilbert, though their relationship will not go smoothly at first.
Kyle Fuller
Kyle is a spoiled brat who's too powerful and wealthy for his own sake. In everyone's eyes and minds, he has more authority than the mayor of Jimdool himself, and he's keen on reminding everyone that he's untouchable and can do whatever he pleases without fear of repercussion, even going so far as to kill people or order someone's murder for banal motives.
Kyle is Diana's boyfriend, though he doesn't seem to be all that interested in a monogamous relationship. In fact, he feels pleasure in commanding his lovers to marry innocent-looking men (such as Leland) to play with them, as well as engaging in polyamorous affairs himself.
Ms. Gilbert
Ms. Gilbert the astonishingly good-looking CEO of the Betensh Group, an enterprise that Kyle had been wanting to seize for a while. She loves helping people, even those who don't share her income levels, though she sometimes feels pressured to speak lowly to save appearances. When not in front of her peers, she's very meek and down-to-earth, as well as an avid pacifist.
Ms. Gilbert makes her appearance, oddly enough, after the signal described earlier was sent to Glory Land.

FAQs
What is the "Transcendence" mini-series all about?
"Transcendence," as the title itself suggests, is a story about transcending oneself and acknowledging one's own powers (albeit not necessarily magical in nature), even though it starts as your typical revenge story. In other words, it demonstrates that all humans, regardless of background or social status, have the potential to become the best version of themselves, as shown by the series' male lead's determination and its outcome. In the case of Leland, he senses something about himself that even he fails to understand at times but that he's not afraid to embrace, although he'd also have to face responsibilities he might not be ready to assume just yet.
